A Good Time For your Medicare Advantage Choice
What is Medicare?
To be eligible for Medicare Part A and Part B, you must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent legal resident for at least five continuous years. In most cases, you have to be age 65 or older, and in other cases you might be eligible for Medicare before age 65 if you may be eligible by disability. This page will help to explain Medicare eligibility in further detail.
Qualifications For Enrollment?
General Qualifications for Medicare Enrollment: Age 65 or Older: You must be a U.S. citizen or a legal resident for at least 5 continuous years. You (or your spouse) typically need at least 10 years (40 work credits) of Medicare tax-paying work history to get premium-free Part A. Otherwise, you may pay a premium. Under Age 65 Due to Disability: You’ve received Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits for 24 months. You’ve received Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) disability benefits for 24 months (with certain conditions). Under Age 65 Due to Specific Health Conditions: You have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and require dialysis or a kidney transplant. You have Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) and receive Social Security Disability benefits (no 24-month waiting period).
Understanding Your Medicare Options
Medicare has several parts and plan types. Original Medicare includes Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance). Some people also look at Medicare Advantage (Part C) or Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D), depending on their situation and where they live.
